LANBURY ROAD
A ground floor and partial first floor rear extension of a 30's terraced house. The intention was to connect the house to the garden - visually and physically: An open plan kitchen/ living/ dining, with a full-width opening. The proposed terrace is forming a "Yin and Yang" play with the landscape, where the flower bed and tiled area interlock with each other. The large sliding doors make the physical boundary of the building disappear, blending indoors and outdoors. The interior is conceived as a brick enclosure with the kitchen and utility cupboards forming an entity of timber boxes contained with it. The exposed buff brick and ash joists, together with a bamboo ply-clad timber form a warm, earthy interior. Eclectic details with brass handles and surface light bulbs balance out the minimalistic interior, adding a touch of class. Despite being exposed to the garden with a wide opening, the space feels cosy and intimate.
