GOODRICH ROAD

Project type

Rear and side extension

Date

2016

Location

East Dulwich, London

Rear extension of a split-level Victorian house in East Dulwich. The brief was to refurbish the rear kitchen and dining by adding living room space. In addition, the cellar was converted into a studio with a light well. Due to the difficult north orientation of the rear of the property, the focus was to maximise incoming light. As such, a top-hat of clerestory windows was introduced. This floods the space with natural light, creating a floating roof effect. Full-width bi-fold doors seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor space, while the crisp volume of the extension compliment the white render of the Victorian elevation. Simple, clean lines and an overall serene atmosphere with a toned-down palette, matching the pale north light of the extension.
